Pavement Ants

Identification

Pavement ants are small, dark brown to black ants, typically 2.5–4 mm long. They often nest under sidewalks, driveways, patios, and building foundations. Indoors, they’re commonly found trailing along baseboards or near food sources.

Behaviour

These ants forage in large numbers and are attracted to sweets, proteins, and grease. Colonies can contain thousands of workers and multiple queens, making them persistent invaders. They enter structures through cracks in foundations or gaps around doors and windows.

Prevention

Seal cracks around the foundation, keep food stored in sealed containers, and maintain clean kitchen surfaces. Reducing moisture — especially around sinks and appliances — helps limit attraction.

Control & Intervention

Pavement ants respond well to targeted baiting and barrier treatments. All City Pest Control uses professional-grade baits and exterior applications to eliminate colonies at the source and prevent re-entry.
